MaARTe 2013: Exhibition and Sale of Museum-Quality Philippine Arts & Crafts

Before I walked inside the Proscenium model unit, where the event was held, I knew my eyes will be opened to a new dimension of Philippine arts and crafts.

People gathered. Camera’s everywhere. Everyone’s wearing their smiles, like a celebration of success to come. This picture welcomed me as I attended the MaArte 2013 Artisan Press Launch happened at the Rockwell Mall last July 17

MaArte, a project of Museum Foundation of the Philippines (MFPI), intends to elevate life’s quality so that life is lived "may Arte".  Their goal is simple: to showcase and support art pieces created by some of the Philippines' finest artisans through organizing the MaARTe Artisan Fair.

Following on the success of the previous year, MaARTe 2013 will gather up to fifty participants engaged in the production of distinct, handcrafted, indigenous, and artisanal products. Over the span of three days, the Foundation will promote these creative industries and cultural entrepreneurs by reaching out to Rockwell residents, their families and friends, residents of the neighboring communities, and the Museum Foundation’s enthusiastic supporters for arts and culture. One of the ways that MaARTe 2013 at Rockwell is different from other expositions is the participation of Al Caronan, curator and long-time creative director in numerous Manila-based international art fairs. He envisions this project as a showcase for “museum-quality crafts” that will provide the visitor a unique shopping experience. Recipients of the Museum Foundation’s efforts are the National Museum of the Philippines and activities funded by Museum Foundation through the years.

Indeed, every piece of art I saw that day spoke for itself. And I commend all these artists who continually inspire more artist to get out of their shells and inspire more. Below are some of the arts and crafts launched in the event.
