Live Your Dream, Swim like a Mermaid at the Manila Ocean Park

Ever dreamt of being a mermaid even just for a day? Or wanted to swim with those beautiful fins while singing the classic Disney soundtrack, Part of your world? Well, we are on the same boat dear. But mine turned to reality yesterday, when I had the chance to try Manila Ocean Park’s Mermaid Swim Experience.

Mermaid Swim Experience is a 45-minute program that features basic swimming, how to glide with a fish tail underwater and proper breathing techniques.

The program started with a briefing. We were asked to sign the waiver while the staff oriented us of the do’s and don'ts. Then, we proceeded to the pool area. Prior to swimming, we did a little stretching and after, the transformation.

The Experience

Excited to try my golden high elastic tail, I was the first to hit the water. Good for me because I had enough time to soften my stiff movements.

I’m telling you, it wasn’t easy, really. The tail was a little heavy, it’ll bring you to where the current is. Plus we were told not to always stand, be careful with the skin and never put too much pressure on the tail. So imagine how cautious we were while trying to master the mermaid swim.

It took me numerous attempts before I became confident with those fins. But perseverance paid off in the finals. The trainer told me I’m doing fine, onting arte na lang (just a little finesse). And she let me swim on my own.

To sum it all up, I enjoyed a lot. I almost felt like Ariel in The Little Mermaid, seriously.  It sort of, awakened my childhood dreams. Even my mom and some friends would want to try it themselves. You should try it too!

Meanwhile, here’s a video of my swim. You can check it out.

Next time, I’ll try it on the open water. (I wish!
