5 Reasons Why You Should Watch Maleficent

Last Thursday, I along with some friends went to see Maleficent Block Screening in Trinoma Cinema. After watching the movie, we just can’t stop talking about it over and over again. Indeed, a movie everyone should watch. Here’s why:

1. Maleficent is not your ordinary Disney movie.

We all love fairy tale movies. I mean, who doesn’t love a happy story about a beautiful princess and a handsome prince, which won’t be complete without an evil queen or witch to hinder their love affair. And after struggling for quite some time, as usual evil queen/witch (or whatever) ended up defeated, while the prince and princess lived happily ever after.

In the movie Maleficent, that love story was (of course) still there but of different view. A totally different Disney movie. Better watch it to find out why.

2. Angelina Jolie killed it!

Honestly, I can’t think of any better actor to play Maleficent than Angelina Jolie. She totally owned it! Her voice, facial expression, gestures, all together is just perfect for the role. And her acting, superb! {Spoiler Alert} Especially the part where she lost her wings.

3. Costumes are awesome!

We all love Maleficent costumes. It may not seem so obvious but she has different costumes worn in the movie.  I also loved her wings! It was sooo real I wish I can take them home.

4. The movie explains it all.

Do not believe in fairy tale, that’s the tag line of the movie. And it fitted perfectly as it explains many things about Maleficent’s wickedness.

I loved how the movie revealed the real deal with Maleficent and Aurora’s father, why Maleficent casted a spell to Aurora, who took care of Aurora when she was growing up, what made Maleficent so angry, and lastly, what true love is.

5. Maleficent learns true love

Maleficent, as we all know, is the villain in the story of Sleeping Beauty. It is also known to us that she was the evil witch (actually a fairy, the strongest fairy) who casted a spell to the king’s new born child that on her 16th birthday she will get her finger pricked on a spinning wheel, fall asleep and will only be awaken by true love’s kiss- which according to Maleficent does not exist. However, in the movie, Maleficent herself discovered that true love does exist.

To cap it all, Maleficent is a good movie. It’s not just about the evil in this world. It’s more of the power of love over anger and revenge rolled into an excellent execution. I personally loved how Disney bends their traditional mushy fairy tale stories. At least now we get to see the other side of the story. So next time, you don’t just believe the fairy tale.

Thanks to Trinoma Cinema for the fun cinema experience. We enjoyed the reclining chair and the TGIFridays treat! Smile
